He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them!
Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true. (John 3:32-33)
Daily Bible Reading: Numbers 27:1 – 29:40
A slightly doctored transcription of this testimony to change it a bit from Jack Nicholson’s in A Few Good Men to Jesus’ about himself…
“You can’t handle the truth… I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom… You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That [my] death while tragic, saves lives… You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that [cross]. You need me on that [cross]. We use words like ‘honor’, ‘code’, ‘loyalty’. We use them as the backbone of a life worth defending something. You use them as a punchline… [Me testimony will] explain myself to men who rise and sleep under the very blanket of the freedom that I provide. Yet you question the manner in which I provide it. It would be better if you just said “thank you” and then [followed my way]. I suggest you [get on your knees] and then stand your post.”
React: While it is fun to use a little poetic license with this, the sad fact is, many do not like the testimony Jesus gave about Himself. It isn’t comfortable. It isn’t safe. It isn’t easy. Jesus said:
I AM the bread of life. If you eat of me you will live forever.
I AM the light of the world. Follow me if you want to be free from darkness.
I AM from above. I am not of this world as you are.
Before Abraham was… I AM.
I AM the door. You must come through me to be saved.
I AM the good shepherd. I will lay down my life for my sheep.
I AM the son of God.
I AM the resurrection and the life. Believe in me and you will live, even if you die.
I AM the way, truth, and life. There is no other way to Father God.
I AM the vine. Abide in me and you will bear fruit.
I AM the Alpha and the Omega, who is, who was, and who is to come.
I AM the living One. I died, but I live forever. Now I hold the keys to death and the grave.
It is so much easier to say He was a prophet. It is so much easier to say He was a good teacher. But Jesus testimony is so much more. Either He lied, He was crazy, or He is the One and Only way to God. Either He was wrong or He is God. Either He is delusional, or devious, or divine. There is no other ground. Jesus is God. To deny this testimony is to deny God. You cannot enter God’s presence if you do not acknowledge His Son.
Jesus, I recognize You are my God. I recognize You are my Savior. You are my Lord. I acknowledge that You are my way. You are my life. You are Truth. All too often I try to go my own way. I try to do my own thing. It is easier to try to say and do my own thing than to try to live my life as a testimony of You. It is easier to go my own way than to follow You. I acknowledge my sin in doing so. By Your grace help me to turn around and follow You. I acknowledge, Jesus, that all sin is rebellion against You. Forgive me for it. Your testimony is my freedom. Help me to live in it.
