You Are The Man!

David was furious. “As surely as the Lord lives,” he vowed, “any man who would do such a thing deserves to die!” Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man!” (2 Samuel 12:5,7) Read: 2 Samuel 12:1-31, John 16:1-33, Psalm 119:65-80, Proverbs 16:4-5 Relate: When I think about David’s response to Nathan’s story all I can think is, “What…

Divine Claim

They replied, “We’re stoning you not for any good work, but for blasphemy! You, a mere man, claim to be God.” (John 10:31-33) Read: 1 Samuel 24:1 –  25:44, John 10:22-42, Psalm 116:1-19, Proverbs 15:20-21 Relate: One of the big arguments atheists sometimes use and Muslims frequently use to deny the divinity of Jesus is…

The Gate

I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved.  Read: 1 Samuel 22:1 – 23:29, John 10:1-21, Psalm 115:1-18, Proverbs 15:18-19 Relate: I pass…

Another Step

There are few joys in life as fulfilling for me as going on a long walk. There’s something about a good hike that takes the entire day or even more. Starting out at the base and then getting to the top of a mountain and looking out and seeing the beauty and the majesty of God’s creation is something all of us need to do at least once or twice in our lifetime. Walking is also a good way to keep in perspective how small we are and how big this world.

Jesus is God

I AM

Religiousness

Read: 1Samuel 15:1-16:23, John 8:1-20, Psalm 110:1-7, Proverbs 15:8-10 “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of…

The Armor Bearer

Read: 1Samuel 14:1-52, John 7:31-53, Psalm 109:1-31, Proverbs 15:5-7  “Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” (1 Samuel 14:6) Relate: If I have…
