There are few joys in life as fulfilling for me as going on a long walk. There’s something about a good hike that takes the entire day or even more. Starting out at the base and then getting to the top of a mountain and looking out and seeing the beauty and the majesty of God’s creation is something all of us need to do at least once or twice in our lifetime. Walking is also a good way to keep in perspective how small we are and how big this world.
And then in the heat of the moment when that temptation comes, it will be easier for you to say, “I may not win every battle but I will win this one. Right now, in this struggle… no food for you.”
There is a difference between being wise and being smart… Knowledge is the accumulation of facts. Wisdom is the beneficial application of facts to life.
The very first thing written in the entire New Testament are these words: “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”
was the second child. Apparently, there is a diagnosable syndrome for this. I guess that means there’s also some medication to combat it, counselors who specialize in it, and who knows… maybe I am eligible for some affirmative action type benefits? Where do I sign up?
God has something great He wants to do in us. There are a thousand and one excuses we have for why it can never happen but the only excuse that holds any water is that we won’t let Him.
This is no conspiracy theory. It is a cold hard fact.
They pick and chose whatever parts of various religions that “sound nice” to them but they commit a form of intellectual terrorism by taking pot shots of all the various religion’s truth claims while refusing to stand on any solid truth of their own.
If we were to read it with a more accurate understanding of some of the idioms and metaphors… let us just say this would not get a PG rating. Solomon was channeling his inner DH Lawrence, not his inner Shakespeare.
