Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway no one knew was there!
(Psalm 77:19)
Relate: As we live out our daily lives, our attention on God and his word slowly dissolves into the ever-changing atmosphere unless we personally keep in touch with God constantly. Thereafter, our relationship with God is dimmed gradually. When we realize this sort of circumstance, we look back at ourselves and regret those days in which we have been not faithful enough and tepid in advancing and reinforcing our bond with God. Then, we suddenly perceive the sense of remoteness between us and God, doubting whether God has been with us all the time or even whether he has been guiding us hitherto.
We often have feelings of distrust because we do not consult God. If we are devoid of communication with God, we can not recognize what is said to be an indication of the Holy Spirit’s guidance, for if we do not think of what he has done for us, we are uncertain and astrayed. Hence, our faith becomes unstable and tentative, which prompts our relationship with God to grow further apart. Nonetheless, regardless of all the past distant periods, God still abides within us. This is the truth that God revealed to us; as such, God moored himself at our hearts, and he has never turned his attention from us. God has always been guiding us through the path no one but He Himself has prepared for us.
React: We sometimes forget these things, and we are frustrated as we think that God has dimmed away from our vision and came apart from us. But the truth is that it was us who departed from God, and we should exert our effort in order to get our minds back to God. What I personally recommend to attain such a goal is to create a small habit of thinking of God in every circumstance.
For instance, when a random setback suddenly hinders you in your course of life, try to stop for a while, contemplate on the matter, and recall God’s presence in your life. Ask for some help, or seek advice from God on what action you should take in respect to the situation you face. It may not grant you an easy solution right away, however, it certainly does guide you, and it serves as another opportunity to connect with God simultaneously.
Respond:
Dear God,
We often forget that you are with us all the time. For we are astraying wanderers, please help us pause every moment to seek your guidance and recall your presence in our life. May our dependence on you grow and remain constant, and be obedient to your words which set the right path for us.
Amen
