Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for the least of these, you did not do for me.
Matthew 25:25
Relate: I used to have this close friend. I thought we were ultimate best friends but then it turns out our friendship was not as important to her as I thought I was, I basically felt betrayed. I wonder if sometimes God also feels the same way. If people do not trust in Him will He also feel betrayed? However, the difference between me and God is that I have no right to punish this friend, but God has the power to send people to hell for not repenting and for not trusting in Him.
React: Even when we feel betrayed by others, we should show love and kindness to those people. That is what God has called us to do. Yes, it was the person’s fault for betraying you. If they don’t repent, God will judge them for that. But it is not our job to punish other people for their sins. We need to leave that to God. During times like these, we should continue trusting in the Lord and praying to Him for our concerns. Just like He forgives us when we have betrayed Him, we also need to learn to forgive others.
Respond:
Dear God,
Help me to learn to forgive. May you forgive those people who willingly choose to betray others just as you forgive me. They have yet to see your light and so they will continue to act in the darkness. Do not punish them with cruelty, rather show them the way towards you.
Amen!
