Humble Sincerity

By: Onyou

Read: Deuteronomy 16:1-17:20, Luke 9:7-27, Psalm 72:1-20, Proverbs 12:8-9

A person is praised according to their prudence,
and one with a warped mind is despised.
Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant
than pretend to be somebody and have no food.
(Proverbs 12:8-9)

Relate: Proverbs 12:8-9 speaks about the value of humility and wisdom over pride. In this modern world, people tend to try to appear more successful and better than they are. For example, Social media can create an illusion of happiness and beauty that does not really reflect who they are. This verse also applies to my life, as I always try to look nicer on social media than in reality. It is time to let down our pride in appearance and showing fake life, but to be humble and authentic.

Sometimes, we might focus more on appearing holy to others than actually pursuing a genuine relationship with God. But God values our humility and sincerity over validations from others. The verse is telling us to live wisely, and not live for the approval of others. It is time to work on our spiritual life and be ready to humble ourselves.

React: When I reflect on this passage, I am reminded that true wisdom comes from God to people who are humble and sincere. This scripture encouraged me to think about my spiritual life: am I living for God’s recognition, or am I caught up in appearances? It gave me the insight that I should not strive for recognition that can lead me away from God’s plan. God should be my priority, and I should live in a way that reflects true wisdom and humility.

Respond:

Dear Lord,
Thank you for reminding me of the importance of humility and wisdom. Please help me to live an authentic life and seek your approval rather than the validation of others. Forgive me at the times when I was prideful and arrogant. Teach me to humble myself and to live a life in your plan. Please provide for my needs so my life could reflect Your image and wisdom in the things I do. In Jesus’ name I pray.
Amen.
