Trust In God

By: Aaron

Read: Numbers 19:1-20:29, Luke 1:1-25, Psalm 56:1-13, Proverbs 11:8

But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised.
I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?
What can mere mortals do to me?
(Psalm 56:3-4)

Relate: Who is the strongest and greatest person in the world? Some might say it’s Francis Ngannou, the great UFC fighter. Or perhaps Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback in NFL history. Maybe it’s LeBron James, who outshines everyone in sports. Now, imagine that this person has a close relationship with you, hypothetically, they could be a family member or a friend. In a dangerous situation, where a robber or a killer stands right in front of you, and people like LeBron or Ngannou are there to protect you, would you still feel fear?

React:

At times in our lives, or even more often than we’d like, we face difficult circumstances. These situations may not always be as extreme as facing a robber, but they could be moments when we mentally break down due to relationships, or when we feel empty and lost like when everything feels hopeless, and we become sick of living. During such moments, we may feel like there’s no one around we can trust or rely on. For me, especially, I tend to hide my struggles and keep them bottled up inside, which only makes things feel worse.

However, Psalm 56:3-4 says: But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? God knows us more deeply than anyone else, more than our parents or our closest loved ones. When you face hardship, trust in God first, rather than relying on anything else.

Respond:

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for showing Your love to us, so we can find rest and rely on Your wings. I pray for those who are going through difficult times and struggles. Please send Your Holy Spirit to their hearts, that they may know Your love is greater than anything, and help them realize that You are always with them, ready to help.
All this I pray in Your name.
Amen.
