I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin
I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked.”
(Psalm 39:1)
Relate: In daily life do you watch your mouth or keep your tongue? Sin can so easily take over your mouth and start controlling you. So easily I have seen people change and so quickly too. It doesn’t take long for sin to control your mouth. My mum used to say “if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all.” The Psalmist says it this way: “I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked.” When you know you are surrounded by those who disgrace rather than lift up those with their mouths you should stay quiet and think about who you surround yourself with.
React: God wants us to watch what we say and think before we speak. There are many verses in the bible about this Psalms 39:1-13 is only one of them. In proverbs 18:21 it says “The tongue can bring death or life..” The words that come out of your mouth can impact many people and you might not always realize that. If you know the words you are going to say won’t be good then keep your “tongue from sin”. Don’t say something you know you will regret.
Respond:
Dear God,
Forgive us for how easily we can allow sin to take over our tongues and our bodies. We ask that You would take away our sin and make us clean. Purify our hearts, our bodies, and our mouths.
Amen
