Harvest Your Moments

Read: Leviticus 7:28-9:6, Mark 3:31-4:25, Psalm 37:12-29, Proverbs 10:5

He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son,
but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
(Proverbs 10:5)

Relate: This verse calls us to be active during harvest, but in what way can we do that? In Matthew, when Jesus and his disciples are out in towns and villages healing and teaching, Jesus tells his disciples “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:37). Jesus was encouraging his disciples to proclaim the good news when so many people were still around. It was important to be active instead of passive during this time around, and it was honoring God when the disciples were saving as many people as they could. They were prudent and proactive.

React: This proverb is quite straightforward. When you realize time doesn’t wait and old age is on the corner in every moment of our lives, it’s important to stay active and diligent. It also honors God by appreciating the moments and opportunities that He gives us, but also sharing the good news when you can. Think to yourself, do I make the most of my days to the full? You die once, but you live life every day. With that in mind, think about how you can harvest your moments and honor God in that way.

Respond:

Dear Lord,
I sit here and pray to You. I give thanks for the things that You’ve allowed me to do and honor You in that way. I try my best to be the best me so I can serve You. Let me be the prudent son when I gather the same crops when it’s time for harvest. Do not let me sleep when Your work calls for me to do. I pray for diligence but also for courage to be active and serve You.
Amen
