So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home when you are on the road, when you are going to bed, and when you are getting up.
Deuteronomy 11:18-19
Relate:
I tend to be very forgetful so I often forget to bring things that I need. There was one time I bought a gift for my friend’s birthday, but I forgot to bring it to her party. I saw her every day at school and every time I saw her I told myself that I would bring it the next day. But every time the next morning came, it would just slip my mind. Because I would always forget to bring it, among many other things, I tried to write down what I needed to bring for the next day in a notebook. The problem was, I would also forget to check my notebook so I would still forget it. In another attempt to get myself to remember to bring the gift, I wrote it down on my phone instead and put the reminder as my wallpaper for that night. Finally, two months after her birthday, I remembered to bring my friend’s gift because of my phone’s wallpaper and successfully gave it to her. I knew that checking my phone before leaving the house was something I naturally do so it was almost inevitable that I would see it. I placed the reminder on something I use every day and somewhere I would always look so I knew I could not miss it.
Sometimes it can feel so difficult to remember the word of God and to live it out because we’re always bombarded with so much information. It can feel impossible to get a grasp of the word and hold on to it when there are so many things we feel like we have to do. But if we are committed to getting the word of God in our hearts and following it, then we should be intentional about meditating on the word. God should not be confined to one day of the week but He should always be in our conversations and in our mundane tasks. We should make intentional efforts to read the word and to make God a part of every aspect of our lives.
React:
The verse says that we should “tie them [the word] to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.” I don’t think we need to literally do this, but if we use this principle of placing the word in places that are a part of our daily habits, then we will always be reminded of the word and be able to walk out the commands of God better. Make the word of God so accessible and so integrated into your life and daily routine that you cannot escape it. Practically, where can you put the word so that you will always see it? You can make it your phone’s wallpaper, put Post-it notes on your mirror, or tape it on your fridge; there are so many different and creative ways to do it. If our whole hearts are committed to knowing God, then we should make it a priority in our lives to seek Him.
Respond:
Dear God,
I pray that your word will constantly be in my mind and on my heart. Help me to be wholeheartedly committed to you. I pray that my conversations will always be full of you. Guide me daily as I walk in your ways.
Amen

Thank you for this reminder to be intentional about the word of God. We literally have our phones with us 99% of the time. I will make use of this.
