Honesty guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people.
Proverbs 11:3
Relate:
As someone who has, of course, sinned in a similar way such as this, it hits me deep in my soul that dishonesty does indeed affect you as a person, and others around you. When you are honest, it helps you to change and become better, making up for one’s mistakes to grow closer to God once more. Additionally, I have seen many portrayals of this in action/drama movies which then lead to the specific character who was dishonest, drowning in guilt or regret.
React:
The verse that I have chosen reminds me of that day around a year ago when I was dishonest with my mother who deeply cared about me. At that time, I was struggling with mental health and had kept it a secret from everyone I knew, including my psychiatrist. Eventually, that came to haunt me as my mother, parents, sister, and friends found out, leading them to worry, hurt, and be mad that someone such as me had lied to them. Soon after, I apologized and vowed to myself from that point onward that I would be honest no matter the situation.
Respond:
Dear Lord, Heavenly Father,
Please hear my prayers. Teach me how to avoid sinful acts and guide me the way to follow by your side, in your footsteps, into the light. Touch my heart and soul with your grace, Father. I am sincerely sorry for all that I have done throughout my life. I love you more than anything else and thank you for wiping the sorrow and darkness from my eyes.
Amen.
