Honor

By Alana

Read: Leviticus 24:1-25:46, Mark 10:13-31, Psalm 44:9-26, Proverbs 10:20-21

Say to the Israelites: “Anyone who curses their God will be held responsible;”
Leviticus 24:15

You know the commandments: “You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.”
Mark 10:19

Relate:
I relate to this because sometimes I say things that are not glorifying to God. Leviticus 24:15, says that if we curse God we will be held responsible, this reminds me that we should be careful of all the words we say no matter who is watching or listening to us. Mark 10:19 talks about obeying the commandments and one of the commandments that really stood out to me was the commandment about honoring your parents. This is sometimes hard to follow as I personally do not always agree with my parents’ rules and regulations. But being reminded about this commandment helps me have peace with obeying my parents and why I should honor my parents.

React:
I can apply this, by saying things that will honor God, and by praying each day for God to help me use my mouth to honor Him and not use my mouth to let others down. When I am mad or angry I want to take deep breaths in and out and ask the Holy Spirit to fill me. I need Him to help me not swear or get mad even though, in the moment, I am upset at the person or at the situation. I should close my eyes and try to relax before talking, and when I have calmed down, I should ask the Lord to help me speak to others to motivate and encourage them.

At a young age, I would rebel against my mom and would be very disrespectful towards her. I would not honor her and would disobey her a lot. As I grew up, I tried to be more loving and honoring towards her. I can still improve in this area and what I want to do is listen and obey my parents even though I do not agree with them, as God tells us to do so. They are my guides and will help me in life, I should respect them and honor them. I want to pray to God every day and night when I feel like not honoring or obeying my parents. Thank you Lord, for helping me.

Respond:

Dear Lord,
I’m sorry for being disrespectful to my parents. Please forgive me for not listening to them and being so stubborn. I realize that honoring my parents will please God and I want to please God in all that I do. Please allow me to follow my parent’s rules even though I do not always agree with them. Thank you for being forgiving and loving, I love you Lord.
Amen

  1. An excellent share. The more we distant ourselves from God and his commandments, the closer we get to Satan.
