Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray. Later Simon and the others went out to find him. When they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
But Jesus replied, “We must go on to other towns as well, and I will preach to them, too. That is why I came.”
Mark 1:35-38
Relate:
This verse takes place when Jesus prays in a solitary place. When Simon came and called Jesus, saying, “Everyone is looking for you,” Jesus replied, saying, “Let us go. That is why I have come.” I chose this verse as a devotional writing because it seems parallel to a recent chapel message. The Chaplin in our school chapel has shared how we should intake spiritually, but also that outputting our intake is very important. He used the word ‘spiritually obese’ to refer to the people who get all those spiritual things, such as worshipping every day, praying, listening to sermons, but not letting out their inputs into the outside world, serving others, sharing love, and doing ministries. Through reading this verse, I can relate to that chapel sermon by seeing what Jesus showed how our intake spiritually through praying alone needs to outflow as we go and preach and share messages from God.
React:
As a Christian who goes to church every week and as a student who is studying at a Christian school, I do have spiritual intake. To go beyond, as Jesus showed, I will set a prayer time every day and continuously read the Bible to discern what I believe. Moreover, to outflow all the intakes, I will serve through the things that I can do as a student, such as church volunteers, ministries, and helping other people. Further, I will do things while I remind myself that I am one of the representatives of God, showing Christ-like characteristics in every moment of my life.
Respond:
Dear God,
Thank you for today, and thank you for the opportunity to read your words and have a devotional time with them. I hope that you work through my life and refine me through your blessings. As I live, help me to accomplish what I have set as a goal, but also guide me to do things not just for my own sake but to glorify you. In Jesus name, I pray,
Amen.
