Seeking Reconciliation Over Revenge

By Eiona

Read: Exodus 21:22-23:13, Matthew 24:1-28, Psalm 29:1-11, Proverbs 7:6-23

In a lawsuit, you must not deny justice to the poor. Be sure never to charge anyone falsely with evil. Never sentence an innocent or blameless person to death, for I never declare a guilty person to be innocent.
Exodus 23:6-7

Relate: I agree, to some extent, that certain people should be punished for things they have done. I like that today’s entire passage in Exodus talks about the emphasis on fair treatment, This passage foreshadows the teachings of Jesus where He tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves. I also admire that the passage highlights the importance of resolving conflicts in a peaceful way, In this way, we are also seeking reconciliation rather than revenge.

React: I find it really crazy how things were very punishable back then and that as followers of Christ, we are required to follow these rules and punishments. But in this way, I think we should be reminded about God’s grace and we should still in our way follow his word and not take for granted God’s grace. And that as followers of Christ, we should learn to be moral knowing God’s word. This passage teaches us how to use justice and kindness towards each other and love towards Him. I like that this passage also reflects how we should react in these situations and how we should interpret them through the lens of Christ’s teachings with love, mercy, and justice.

Respond:

Dear Lord,
Please guide us in our ways, so that what we do pleases You. That with Your wisdom, as followers of You, we can discern right from wrong. Teach us how to use justice and kindness and most especially love towards You, Lord. We ask that You would be able to guide us to the right path to please You.
Amen
