While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he called out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I come from. But I’m not here on my own. The one who sent me is true, and you don’t know him. But I know him because I come from him, and he sent me to you.” (John 7:28-29)
Read: Proverbs 20:1 – 22:16
Relate: From Frank Sinatra:
To Jay Z:
We have always had it wrong. We applaud the self made man. We encourage independent action and applaud independent thought.
React: The truth of the matter is that even Jesus Himself, even God made flesh, followed the marching orders of heaven. Jesus recognized an authority worth following and He was obedient even unto death. If Jesus Himself recognized that life is not meant to be an independently blazed trail, how much more should I place myself under authority? I do not want to do it my way. My way never works. His way is so much better.
Respond:
God, I need You. I can’t do it my way. None of us can. it never works. Lead us. Help us to follow. You are the way maker. Help us to recognize and follow the path You have laid out for us.
ive tried doing it my way and it has never worked, not once!
this is ttruth – we need that higher power in our lives. we need God.
Amen!
“…how much more should I place myself under authority?” – Only when we are submitted to His authority [being obedient to His Word & commands] will we have any authority.
