John 6:63-65 (Don’t Believe)

He Is Everywhere

The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But some of you do not believe me.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning which ones didn’t believe, and he knew who would betray him.) Then he said, “That is why I said that people can’t come to me unless the Father gives them to me.” (John 6:63-65)

Read: 1 Kings 3:16-28, 1 Kings 5:1 – 6:38, 2 Chronicles 2:1 – 3:14

Relate: I just don’t get it. Seriously. How on earth does someone walk and talk and live with Jesus and still not believe? He’s right there. He’s been known to spend days healing one person after another late into the night. Blind eyes have been opened. Crippled legs have been made whole. Food has been pulled out of nowhere to feed the masses. He strolls across lakes easier than I do sidewalks and, once he hops in a boat and tells the waves to calm down… they do! How can you not believe?

React: I’ve heard the comment, “If God were to show up and come talk to me Himself then I’d believe He exists.” Garbage. His word is written and available for anybody and everybody to read. His handiwork can be seen every time you look out the window. His image has been taken and scattered over seven billion some odd times, scattered throughout the planet. God is the originator and master of the “selfie”. You and I are proof. He is everywhere. No, He is not still walking and talking in the Judean countryside. Now He is walking and talking through the voices of millions of His followers. There is still no excuse. Only those drawn by the Spirit can come to Him. So I ask, Is He drawing You? Are you willing to come?

Respond:

God, I recognize that it isn’t enough to read Your words, or see Your handiwork. No matter how well they are spoken, no matter how beautiful the painting You display, it is not enough. I can never win anyone to You through even the most eloquent of words. I pray that everyone who is reading this, that everyone who I will come into contact with, would have a very real, very personal encounter with You. I pray that Your Spirit would draw even the hardest of hearts. Make Yourself real to them because no amount of proof, no compilation of evidence will ever bring someone to You until You first invade their hearts. So God, I ask that You do Your thing. One heart at a time… change the world.

  1. I don’t get it either, B.J. The Lord could knock some across the head with a ball bat and they still won’t believe. I guess when the devil pulls the blinders down he does a really good job of it.

  2. Are we all taking every step that the Spirit leads us to take in drawing nearer to Jesus? Some show little or no interest, they demonstrate whether they are ¨given to Him.¨ But what are we who seek Him doing to assure that we are included in that transaction between the Father and the Son. Pray that you and I are found hearing His words and with His Spirit and His life within us today!
