I am so glad that the Bible does not look at the people in it with rose-colored glasses. The fact that they are flawed and yet forgiven means that I can be too.

It is a hard line to walk to balance my pragmatism and my dreams. If I swing too far to one side I fall into complaining. If I go too far to the other, I step into complacency.
There’s something about a beginning that brings hope. We all want a clean slate. We all want a fresh start, and getting one gives us joy and brings new commitments. We promise to do better and, for a while, we actually believe we can.
And God saw that it was good.
