The Arrival

But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus. (2 Corinthians 7:6) Read: Ecclesiastes 4:1-6:12, 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:7, Psalm 47:1-9, Proverbs 22:16 Relate: There are a few people I know that everybody just loves being around. Some people just have a gift to always be an encourager. When you get…

Broken and Patched Up

Read: Job 34:1-36:33, 2 Corinthians 4:1-12, Psalm 44:1-8, Proverbs 22:10-12 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. (2 Corinthians 4:7) Relate: I had a large bowl of pasta in each…

The Most Important Thing

Read: Job 8:1-11:20, 1 Corinthians 15:1-28, Psalm 38:1-22, Proverbs 21:28-29 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures…

Another Step

There are few joys in life as fulfilling for me as going on a long walk. There’s something about a good hike that takes the entire day or even more. Starting out at the base and then getting to the top of a mountain and looking out and seeing the beauty and the majesty of God’s creation is something all of us need to do at least once or twice in our lifetime. Walking is also a good way to keep in perspective how small we are and how big this world.

Rich and Poor

Read: The One Year Bible daily reading link is here. Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field. The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little…

The Very First Words

The very first thing written in the entire New Testament are these words: “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

The Little Brother

was the second child. Apparently, there is a diagnosable syndrome for this. I guess that means there’s also some medication to combat it, counselors who specialize in it, and who knows… maybe I am eligible for some affirmative action type benefits? Where do I sign up?
