But they laughed at him. After he put them all out,
he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him,
and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her,
“Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).
(Mark 5:40-41)
Relate: When Jesus left the Gerasenes region and returned to Capernaum, Jairus, the synagogue leader, came to Jesus in faith to save his dying daughter. Jesus listens to Jairus and walks to his house to see his daughter. As he walks down the street, the Bible focuses on an unknown woman. This woman breaks through the throes of people and approaches Jesus. The Bible explains this woman’s situation. She suffered from hemorrhage for 12 years. She visited many doctors, but they only took her money yet the bleeding did not go away. At that time, this woman heard news of hope. That news is that Jesus is coming to Capernaum. This woman confessed her faith. If she could just touch the hem of his clothes, she would be cured. As soon as she reached the hem of Jesus’ clothes through the crowd of people, the woman was immediately cured.
Among the women and people who are rejoicing over the treatment of diseases and wounds, there is a person who is particularly frowning. This is Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. As Jesus delayed his steps, Jarius became increasingly anxious. He had to save his daughter as soon as possible, but the delay was too long. At that time, sad news is heard from Jairus’ house. His daughter was dead. Jesus, seeing Jarius immersed in sorrow, said, “Do not be afraid, just believe.” Jesus entered the room where Jairus’ dead daughter was lying and shouted this. “Talitha koum,” “Little girl, I say, get up.” The 12 year old girl immediately stood up.
React: Jesus healed a woman who had suffered from a hemorrhage for 12 years and was groaning in pain. The daughter of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue, died, but He brought her back to life. Jairus’ daughter was 12 years old. The core of these two miracles is faith. The work of Jesus became reality through faith. Faith refers to our belief in Christ Jesus. Jairus believed in Him. The woman with the hemorrhage also believed in Him. Miracles happen not when we believe in miracles, but when we believe in Jesus Christ, who creates miracles.
We must always remember God’s love and faithfulness so that we do not abandon our faith in Jesus in any difficult situation. It is important to believe that God gives us the opportunity to grow through every challenge we face and that everything He does is for our benefit. We must also strengthen our relationship with God through prayer. In difficult situations, God is a great help in maintaining our faith.
Respond:
Dear God,
You still do miracles because You love us. You still work healings in our hearts and our bodies because You love us. You still raise the dead, both physically and spiritually, because You love us. I pray that You would still do miracles in and through my life. I pray even more that my life will be a miracle for Your glory.
Amen
