My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
(Proverbs 7:1)
Relate: The Bible verse says that we should keep His Words and keep up His commands within us. In the Ten Commandments, God says that we should honor our father and mother. However, I found this command hard to obey when their advice hurt my feelings. I know that what my parents tell me is not to harm me but to help me be a better person.
Let me take a situation when I struggled with obeying my parents. When I came back home from school, I felt really tired and I just wanted to take some rest. However, my mom told me that I needed to finish my homework first before I took a rest. Although I knew that I had to finish my homework first, I procrastinated right up until the end.
React: From now on, I will try to remember my parents’ advice is all for my good. Remembering that, I will try to obey my parents and do my homework much earlier instead of procrastinating. Also, I will not only memorize the weekly memory verse but also strive to understand its true meaning. I will cherish it in my heart and store up God’s commands within me, allowing it to guide my life.
Respond:
Dear Lord,
I thank You for giving me this verse to reflect on. I pray that You will help me to cherish Your Word. Give me wisdom and knowledge when I study and do assignments.
I pray all these in Jesus’ Name,
Amen
