Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
Relate: They should have stopped at one. It was the perfect dose of nostalgia when a childhood toy and show was given a modern makeover. Unfortunately, they realized how big of a cash cow they were sitting on and multiple sequels came out to the point where I haven’t even bothered to watch the last one or two or three or,.. how many of these things are there again?
But back in the day when Sam Witwicky meets Bumblebee… I loved it. Even then, though, you have to shut your brain off to truly enjoy the movie. As with most movies, too much thinking will spoil the fun. I mean, when Sam Witwicky starts complaining about how old and beat up Bumblebee is, the yellow car gets up on two wheels and takes a picture, why did it need to do that? Couldn’t it have just “transformed” a camera on the side? For that matter, why are these things even mimicking human technology? I understand the desire to go undercover, but then once the gig is up and they are out in the open, why not transform into something else? Aren’t there better fighting machines Bumblebee can be than a Camaro? Is Ratchet a better medical officer because he transforms into an ambulance? Optimus, I’m sorry but that colorful rig you transform into is a poor disguise. Nobody is fooled. So why not at least put some lasers and cannons on that monstrosity? All of these Autobots and Decepticons came from a planet full of living technology. Couldn’t there have been some cooler, more efficient, and powerful tech they could imitate from their own planet when they are fighting out in the open?
React: I know, I know. It is just a movie. there is no need to get all worked up about it. It is only a work of fiction built off a clever children’s toy. However, this work of fiction also highlights a sad spiritual truth we definitely should be getting worked up about. We are Autobots. Like Bumblebee and the rest, we belong to another world, another kingdom. Like them, we have a mission and a responsibility to save the people on this planet. Like my complaint of them, we aren’t nearly as effective as we could be. We are so busy imitating the things of this world that we neglect the power from our home in the heavens that we could be tapping into. It’s time to transform. God help us to transform.
Transform me. There is a world to reach, there is a commission to fulfill, and I cannot be an effective part of it if I am tied down to the pattern, to the systems of this world. Help me to stop conforming myself to the patterns and ideas of this world. Help me to stop imitating the very things I am called to transform. You have a new way of thinking for me. You have a new way of living, a new way of being for me. Help me to change.
