Simple Truth

But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of Truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me. And you must also testify about me because you have been with me from the beginning of my ministry. (John 15:26-27)

Read: Matthew 8:18-22, Luke 9:51-62, John 7:1 – 8:20

Relate: I think I need to lay a little groundwork in the truth today. Normally I do my best to stay away from controversial, political type issues because they tend to detract from our primary purpose in being here which is to carry the good news of what Jesus has done for us into our world. Today, I just have to speak out a little. Forgive me as I step up on my soap box for a second.

I was reading this morning about Houston’s non discrimination ordinance and the fact that the city threw out a large chunk of the signed petitions for its repeal in order to keep it on the books. Now the city is suing many of the major pastors in the area demanding oversight of their sermons. Ridiculous. Garbage.

Lets put a little truth on the issue. There is no such thing as height confusion. A person can wear heals or go barefoot. They can slouch or stand up straight. They can spike their hair as high as it will go. A person can even spend their days walking around on stilts if they chose. None of that changes their height. It is a biological fact of life. Certain places and activities like the McDonalds playhouse and the big kids roller coasters have height limitations. These aren’t unfair, cruel or unjust. They simply are.

In the same way, a person can dress, act talk, walk, and even think however they like. As long as they are not hurting another, they are fine. That does not change their gender. For 99.99% of all “gender confusion” cases, three simple words can clear it up. Check your plumbing. There are certain areas, built for plumbing relief, that are restricted to certain types of plumbing. This is not cruel, unfair, or unjust. It simply is. By limiting these rooms to certain types of plumbing, normal people and responsible businesses are creating a safer environment for everyone. The whims of a rebellious minority who refuse to acknowledge the plain, biological truth does not have any right to tyrannize the majority.

React: One of the names for the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. One of the major functions of the Holy Spirit is that He is the author and sustainer of life. Just as a loss for the sanctity of life (abortion, capital punishment, hawkishness) is an evidence of a society in rebellion against God, so is a loss for the respect of truth as seen in such cases as Houston and others around our nation. The problem is, we have been fighting a tooth and nail political battle trying to put band aids on the symptoms when we should be getting on our knees to war against the disease of Godlessness that can only be cured by praying in an outpouring of the Spirit of Truth, the Sustainer of Life, on our cities and cultures and world.

Respond:

God, I thank You that ultimately, You are victorious. No matter the assault, no matter the denials, You are Truth. There is nothing, ever, that can negate that fact. I pray for my nation, I pray for my society, I pray for my world. I do not necessarily pray that the right laws and ordinances would be passed. I pray rather that an overwhelming awareness of Your presence and Your lordship would make such laws and ordinances would be unnecessary. I pray for a revival that doesn’t just sensationalize a city but rather transforms a society. Through us, turn this world upside down once again.

  1. BJ, There are still some of us who are fighting the good faith–saying what God says and agreeing with God–in all things.

Your review of our “plumbing” says it all and if all would be willing to hear, read, accept Truth, the rest of us could cease from our labors on this front. But since they won’t; we won’t. I don’t know about you, but I’m in the for long haul, with every blog I write–I will agree with God and obey Him rather than man!

  2. BJ – Please get on your soapbox any time you please. We could use a little soap with our sanctification. If we get frustrated with such banal, and I do mean basic truths, think what God the Father must be doing. People can put God in a human shaped box, but He is still God and he created us in His image -not the other way around. People can create boxes of beliefs for every little warped detail, but God still gets to decide. He will have the final say and those little boxes are going to be ash.

  4. Thank you. My blog Honor and Respect is in response to our soldiers for Memorial Day. Also, it’s good to read the bible and understand it well.

  5. Reblogged this on ChristianBlessings and commented:
The Lord reigns even when we do not “see” Him victorious. He is at work in the hearts of men, women and children. Do not despair. He looks upon the heart, not on the appearance. He knows what everything is about. He has the solutions. Praise God.

  6. I do not disagree that we should end up on our knees before God in our search for His truth….

But I believe that we fail to understand the scope of our fallen state, as well as the diversity of God’s creation, when we deny the fact that roughly 1 in 1500 babies are born with aspects of hermaphroditism (or, Intersex biological characteristics).
Most Social Scientists would agree that gender is something defined by social context– not biological sex characteristics.
That we as a culture are trying to include those on the fringes of the ‘norm’ in every public context, is not sinful. It’s generous. It’s refusing to judge our neighbors by acknowledging that enough people are affected by forces we’ve to fully understand, to warrant non- discriminatory legislation in protection of their right to dignified treatment.

We used to believe that Epilepsy and Schizo-affective disorders were the result of demon possession. How many people were spiritually injured as a result of our ignorance? Are we willing to make the same mistake now? Or do we view our response through the lens of a merciful God that does not hold any one of His followers responsible for the extent of their transgressions?

    • “That we as a culture are trying to include those on the fringes of the ‘norm’ in every public context, is not sinful. It’s generous.”…I have been thinking similarly- appreciate your thoughts.

  7. Thank you for speaking the truth in love! Most don’t believe that love can be firm, but it all is dictated by heart motive! “From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Too many are looking for ways to avoid controversy and for some it is the right path to avoid for they are not gifted in the authority necessary. This is not a judgement against them, just a fact of spiritual and ministry gifting, BUT, when the Holy Spirit tells us to NOT conform to the world, it means we are NOT to conform under any guise or circumstance!
Thanks BJ for your obedience and your love for the Lord and the eternal well-being of God’s created! Sometimes love has to be firm if you truly love others for the long-run!
I’m also going to add you to my Blogs Followed page. I so look forward to reading more and fellowship with comments and prayer! God Bless you richly!

    • BJ, sorry, I’ve been away health-wise a couple of months. I already have you on my page, it’s just been awhile since I have read anybody’s blogs, but hopefully am back! God bless!
