The End Is Written (8/3/13)

Read: 2 Chronicles 33:14-34:33, Romans 16:10-27, Psalm 26:1-12, Proverbs 20:19

The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. (Romans 16:20)

Relate: In 99 movies out of 100, the good guy wins. It is one of the things that keeps us watching. What keeps us on the edge of our seat isn’t wondering “if” he or she will win but rather “how”. It wasn’t if Captain America was going to take down Red Skull, it was how. It wasn’t “if” the Avengers would stop Loki, it was how. It isn’t “if” Linda will get George in Wanderlust, it is “how” I will stay awake until the end… oh wait.

With the exception of that last, the same thing is true in our spiritual life (and no, I didn’t see Wanderlust, there are more peaceful ways for me to take a nap). We know the end of the story. It is already written. God wins. We win. The question is… how? That is what makes this life exciting. That is what makes it an adventure.

If there was never any conflict, if we won every battle, if there was no tension, we would not appreciate the journey. Who wants to watch a movie where everything goes right in every scene and every scenario. That sounds like a low budget concept film that flopped at Sundance. It doesn’t sound real. It doesn’t sound exciting. It isn’t life.

React: So maybe its time for me to quit complaining for a while. When things aren’t quite going my way, instead of griping or giving up maybe I should start looking at the how. What is God doing in this scene of my life? How is He going to bring about the victory? How is He going to show Himself strong? I know my final destination, how am I to get there from here? God is a master producer and one day the world will see the story of my life. Am I playing my role to the best of my ability or am I whining and moaning on the sidelines demanding from the editor a rewrite?

God, help me not to forget that the end of the story is written. Help me to stick with You, for You have won for me the victory. Sometimes, as I’m working my way through the stage of life, I can forget who is running the show. I can forget who has written the script. You have created a perfect role for me. Help me to play it beyond the best of my ability.

  2. do we really know our final destination? I don’t think we do. we know goo will win, but who’s to say who if I’m not part of the bad. God knows me better than I know myself. he closer to me than my own jugular vein. he knows what’s in store for me, and how I’m getting there. so I guess the challenge of us all is taking the journey: and seeing “how” things work out.

  3. I may have to share my own thoughts on this on my blog this week…thank you so much. You are right, there is a plan, we do win, God wins…I needed this today, for the week, for the thoughts…thank you
